Automating Data Extraction and Transformation for ArcGIS Dashboards

This talk demonstrates how automated workflows built with Python streamline data extraction and transformation for ArcGIS dashboards. By replacing manual processes, the approach enhances efficiency, accuracy, and accessibility, enabling timely, data-driven insights to support public policy, economic development, and community decision-making. The Erie County Data Center manages data for ErieVitalSigns.org on behalf of the Erie Community Foundation. ErieVitalSigns.org provides a wide range of community data on Erie County—covering topics such as the economy, health, and overall livability. Previously, this information was collected and processed manually, consuming significant time and organizational resources to stay current. Today, the process is automated within the Python and ArcGIS environments. Participants will leave this session with a clear understanding of how similar data extraction and transformation workflows can be implemented in their own organizations to maintain accurate, up-to-date dashboards with far less effort.
